Technology
If you like ancient Roman technology, this would be the page for you. The early Romans art and architecture copied the Etruscans. Later they then studied the Greek sculpture and architecture. But the Romans statues and buildings were stronger and heavier in style. The Romans used arches to make there buildings larger structures. They could create buildings with wide, open space on the inside. They were supported by arches. Most buildings though were build with bricks and slabs of marble. However, one important building material came into the picture; concrete. Concrete was a mixture that dried as hard as rock. It involved; stone, sand, cement and water. It was a great help in building the Colosseum, (The picture to the right), it could hold over 50,000 spectators! It was the greatest building in the Roman history. The walls were so well build, the stadium floor could be flooded for naval battle with real boats. There was also elevators for the animals to be lifted up or down to fight the gladiators. For the people, there is stair ways and ramps.
The Roman roads were built for allowing speedy movement. So that the army troops could get to places and messages/communication faster. The roads were sturdy and strong. Also the center came up towards the middle so that rain water could slide off into the ditches. The roads included;
Layer one:A layer of broken stones between 10-24 inches deep.
Layer two:A layer about 9 inches thick made up of smaller stones and line mortar. Layer three:Included gravel, sand and mortar.
Layer Four:The top layer with tightly fitted stones, coming up in the center for rain water to drain off the sides.

Aqueducts are a important invention for the Romans. Aqueducts carried water to the towns for a couple of reasons. Such as; it carried water to the riches houses for the kitchens, private baths, and drinking water. Also carried water to fountains in the city and public baths.
As you can see, technology plays not only an important role for Rome, but also for the world. We wouldn't have man of our inventions today if it wasn't for them. So think what our world would be like withtout it.
